Step Cam Assembly

I am hoping someone can help me with my Cam and Follower assembly issue.
I have made an assembly for a cam and follower. I have used a slider mate for the follower to go through the origin which worked great. I have also used a revolute mate for my cam which also spins perfectly.
However, my issue is when I try to make them tangential, the animation will not work. I have gone as far as filleting the edges of the cam and having a circular bottom on the follower thinking this may have solved my issue, but it hasn't.
I would love some feedback/advice on this!
My regular circular cams work perfect with this method!
