How can I fill this gap between a part and surface?

I have a part with a channel on the underside. I’m trying to remove the channel and fill the gap so that it matches the surrounding areas the entire surface is smooth. I created a fill surface that matches the area to remove, but I can’t work out how to fill the gap and remove all the uneeded faces on the interior.

I tried various input to replace/remove/move face, but couldn’t work out the right combination to get to my goal.

Seems like it should be simple, I just don’t know the right tool here 😅

Instead of adding things to fill the gap, did you try to just remove the faces that make up the gap itself? Just select all of them and use the "Delete Face" feature:

Of course! Thank you! I had tried that path and had only selected a few of the faces to test as there's so many, and it didn't work — I didn't realize I had to select all the faces.

Yeah. Else, it will try to create a closing surface that respects the remaining faces … and probably fail. Just fence-select all of them. :0)

delete face and fence selecting the faces is probably the best solution as already suggested, but an alternative you could have done is just extrude this face up to the fillet on the opposite side, then replace face the remaining space with the bottom surface.

To improve my technique, what are you guys referring to when you say "fence selecting"?

Window select could be interchanged with fence selection. Just click and drag to create a window/fence/rectangle. Left to right or right to left matters. Also learning the entity selection tools helps too.
