Newb: How to import simple structural steel blocks?

I've tried from a few different sites and in dwg, igs, stp. Igs and stp don't show anything after it says imported. The dwg tab is empty except the file name etc, no parts. Only the dwg drawing shows the "model" and right clicking doesn't do anything and i don't see anyway to copy it into my part studio.
