copy a part studio to a new document

I have a part that was designed in an earlier document. I used it in my current project by importing the part into the main assembly, but now I want to edit the part. I also don't want to mess up the earlier design. is there a way to import the part studio from the earlier document so I can modify the part without making changes in the older document?

You could make branches and versions in the original/older document. Then you'll have control of what you import in to the new document. Or, you could copy/paste the Part Studio tab from the original/older document into the newer document. The pasted tab will have no connection to the original.
