How do I sweep with a curve?

I am trying to understand how the sweep function works.
I want to sweep according to a specific radius so I made a sketch on how the curve is supposed to go.
But whenever I try to do it with a rounded curve it keeps complaining about sweeping itself.
However if I simply add a straight line for the curve instead of rounded then it works but it wont looks as good.
Not really sure how to solve this and if it's possible?

Note the inside corner is trying to fold in on it's self in your image. See the difference in this sample by modifying for a path that works. Note the change between sketch 2 & 3 to get a path that works using a sweep. Hint, all sections to come around the corner are not the same span.

You might opt for a simple extrude for the body, and sweep the hole through that body…. if the geometry is important to be like your second image
