Loft between circle and a shape?

I have spent a long time trying to work out how to do a loft between 2 simple-ish shapes and cannot get it to work the way I wanrt. I want the loft between the 2 shapes below. The diameter of the top shape matches that of the bottom so want that to follow straight up, but I want the other half to curve in and match. All I can get is some sort of twisted result. I have tried watching videos of bridging curves and suchlike but I could not work it out.

You should be able to get to work by editing the "connections" in the loft.

However it might be better to extend your cylinder to the top an cut out the shape with a simpler loft (preferably one side at a time and use a mirror feature, assuming it's symmetric)

Thanks. Could not get connections working, but splitting the model into a number of more simple lofts I managed to get working.
