"extrude" curved letter

hi,

I'm using projected curved to convert letters to curves on curved surfaces. I then convert the curves to faces (surfaces) and use offset surface with loft to "extrude" the letter

it works well for most of the letters except closed letters like o (i didn't check q of p or d…).

you can see in the picture that the loft for o didn't work (it's red) and the loft for E is working

i can fix it with bridging curves but that lots of work for a single loft (its even worst when the letter is a closed rectangle) .
