wrong train of thought on edge extrude ?

Hello,
I wanted to make a ridge / wall / thin extrude on some of my edge of a face.
it doesn't seem possible to only select the edges that I want , and onshape only makes it possible to select the face while I'm in extrude mode.
what is the correct way of doing this ?

Create a sketch. Use the Use tool or Intersection tool to bring surfaces into your sketch. Then you can extrude.

This alternative 'extrude' FS allows selection of edges. preventing having to make useless sketches with only used edges.
