How to prevent mate connectors showing in top assemblies when opening files?

Using Shift-P will remove all sketches and mate connectors, but . . .
Every time I open a top assembly, mate connectors show. I all sub-assemblies and parts, I used Shift-P to hide the unwanted connectors, then created a version.
When I update the top assembly, when changes are made in any of the sub assemblies, mate connectors show again. How to permanent hide these, or set a default that these do not show?
