Reusing Parts Across Projects

Hello,
We're looking into switching to a generic part numbering system instead of the job specific system we use now. I'm wondering if it's reasonable to reuse parts across jobs since the part numbers are no longer job specific? We do have a library for purchased parts and standard parts, but what about a part here or there to reuse from a previous job? If it's used enough times we could decide to make it a standard part and move it to the standard parts library.
It seems kinda crazy coming from SolidWorks, but I'm not convinced it won't work in Onshape.
Advantages/disadvantages? .
I can see gathering the drawings being an issue…
Thanks!

Hi,
Part numbering isn't software related but company procedures related. For example, when you mention "I can see gathering the drawings being an issue", it refers directly on how you send a job in production. I recommend you design your numbering system to suit your needs, but it might be a good idea to rethink how you send your jobs in production at the same time. A good numbering system and maybe slight changes in your production procedures can save you a lot of time.
There is a lot of articles and discussions on the web on this topic.
