Is there a way to disproportionately change the size of text?

I am working on custom name plates for students and one students name is really long but I want to keep the plates the same size, and the letters the same height. Si was wondering if there was a way to resize the letters without hanging the height.

Extrude things at their natural proportions, then use the Transform/Scale feature with uniform turned off. You can calculate the scale based on the desired length over the actual.
