I am using the free version. I can copy and paste within one assembly. I cannot paste into another assembly. Nor can I insert. Is this a limitation of the free version?

Sorry I am able to copy and paste between assemblies. I am not able to copy and paste between documents. My solution is to export into an .stl, import into Blender, perform the action, export, then import back into Onshape.
You can insert parts or assemblies from the same document or from other documents. Copy and Paste has limited functionality in Onshape.
Round tripping through STL and Blender back to Onshape sounds a bit crazy. There should be zero reason to do that.
I would highly recommend the free training. Mechanical CAD, and Onshape in particular is a bit different than other tools.
