linear pattern direction

hey guys , i am having some trouble with how my linear pattern is generating in a way i cant understand.
the feature is in early stages, but the point at this stage is to select a 2d face to run a set of rectangular load bars either along an x or y direction .
using a bounding box to get the length of the bars as the shape may not always be rectangular so next stage will be to trim to the sketched face
and i believe its only working by accident, as if i choose any shape other than a rectangle the linear pattern then runs in the opposite way outside of the desired shape
i tried to ensure that direction always went to positive which seems to work as seen in the 1st 2 pics (debugging red and green )
so i think with my limited abilities in JS knowledge ive got a mix up in how my direction is reading
