I am trying to extend the side walls but OnShape fails whether I extrude in any direction.
I can only create a new object however then boolean will fail
here is a link to the document itself should anyone wishes to inspect:

Not sure what happened with the share. Probably went back after the fact and made public. Should be able to copy now.
Glad to be of help.

I'm currently not an expert in sheet metal, but my search tells me that one of the limitations of being in sheet-metal-mode is that you cannot use "Add" or "Intersect" to directly add material to an active sheet metal part; you must use sheet metal specific tools like flanges or tabs to add material.
Probably due to all the bend calculations that need to be done at the end when flattening etc.

If you really need to do it this way, there is the 'Finish Sheet Metal Model' tool which you can use before your sketch and extrude.

Use the sheetmetal tab feature or move face for what you are trying to do.
I know that shape doesn't produce any collision errors….. Its not really manufacturable as one piece, is it? I feel any vendor would no-quote it.
Is this what your looking for?

Almost. It is the direction, thanks. I could not copy your file as it is for viewing only so could not inspect the information inside the features themselves. Still it was enough for me to realize how to use the tab feature as well as see your efficient workflow (much less features than my usage) - I am new to metal sheet and do not fully understand the meaning of the terms therefore I make many mistakes.
In short: Thanks, you helped a lot.
