Student document issues.

I am tearing my hair out (and there isn't much to tear out). Students seem to default to my "Mr Knox" folder as the default working folder. They create a document that the entire class can see and then have access to. Students are then working, changing, and submitting a document that isn't their personal document. Yes, some know, but others are simply baffled by the fact that this magically changing document they didn't create, isn't their document. This has been an issue the last two assignments where I have allowed students to create their own documents instead of creating a new document in assignments. I have been telling students to click on "owned by me" BEFORE working on a document. I just wish there was a way to hide the "Mr Knox" folder to students entirely. Once the student creates an assignment, they also have the issue of other students getting in and changing things or deleting the document. This part has been an absolute mess.

Some student documents might be owned by your Classroom, but that doesn't mean other students can see them. Students can only view docuemtns shared with them and they can only edit documents that have been shared with them — with edit privileges.
The Onshape permission details can be a bit nuanced. It might be helpful to create a dummy student Onshape account (I use plus addressing like mattshields+student@myschool.com) and add that student to your Classroom. Log in as that student and you can see what students do and do not have access to. It's possible you have inadvertently given edit privileges for a folder to the whole Classroom.
Hi John,
I see how that is frustrating. This should not be happening. Double check that students are not sharing with the entire classroom after they make it. Even if it's made in the classroom, it should only be visible to the creator of the document unless they are an admin/owner of the classroom or they have shared it with the classroom.
If you think this is a bug somehow and/or want to share more details that will be more secure, please submit a ticket and we can work more with you there. When you do so, please submit a screenshot of the student dialogue box for when they are creating things along with a dialogue of the share settings for that document.
To submit a ticket, just go to the help icon next to your name in the upper right corner of your account and select 'Report a Bug'.
We'll pick this up from the support side when we hear from you there. Thanks!
Eric
