Query based on "direction" or relative angle from reference selection?

I'll preface this by saying I think we should have a mega-thread where people can ask "how do I write a query variable for this"…

I've been making some configurable designs that use hexagons (bestagons) and have run into this a few times: I want to get the faces (actual faces of extruded bodies and polygon faces) that match a direction. A good example is my implementation of the popular 3d-printable modular display for Lego minifigures. This was my first attempt at using QV+ and amalgamate so please don't judge me too harshly:https://cad.onshape.com/documents/445ffe80b4dcbb6c3e31422d/w/ba3db46384c428dc708c3fb7/e/6539edf81bf11cf427b63993?configuration=List_4FYOsToKZhkZ6Y%3DDefault&renderMode=0&uiState=69cabfde74187d961a3c2484

Let's say I want to select the "slot" faces based on which side it is (top, top right, bottom left, etc). How would I do that? I think what I did was create a "reference" hex and matched to that but it seems like there should be a better way.
