Assembly Workflow Tips

Building a custom computer case and want to design around components that I've modeled and linked up in an assembly. Tried to derive the assembly into the chassis part studio, but only saw other part studios in the derived tool. What am I missing? Any tips on the proper workflow for building around real-life components with tight tolerances?
