can I use setExternalDisambiguation to keep toggle points manipulator object references stable?

This Lighten script creates triangular extrusions that are eventually boolean subtracted from a plate. I use TPM to select areas to ignore, but if you change the sketch and create or remove some regions, the TPM references shift around. is setExternalDisambiguation the answer to this? I have no idea how to do things at this level.
