Wrap text around outside of cylinder evenly

I'm sure I'm missing something easy, but I just need to wrap the numbers 0-9 around the outside of a cylinder to make a rotating counter. I know I can use the wrap tool, but the text manipulation abilities seem frankly abysmal from what I can tell. I can't rotate the numbers vertically as a group, nor can I make a circular pattern sketch to match the outside of a cylinder in the right orientation, and if I make a number a surface to make a pattern as a non sketch, I can't change the number… and any other idea I have makes for less than precise spacing. I feel like this has got to be easy but I'm not figuring out how. Please help.

    You could create a variable with a "measured value" of the length of your cylinder circumference. Use that to create the sketch and reference all length dimensions in the text inside that sketch to it. Create all characters as single items in your sketch. That should give you control over the spacing and distribution, even if you edit the cylinder diameter at some future point in time.
