Design collaboration

Is there anyone interested in collaborating on design in Onshape? I am particularly interested in Product lifecycle management functionality and product creation processes, change management etc.

    Collaborating is one of the main reasons why one would use Onshape. What kind of particular collab are you after? Do you want someone to manage your PLM or create models for you? Do you have a project? Do you want to join a project?

    I'd like to demonstrate how to collaborate using Onshape in this instance. It doesn't really matter about the content or project it's the methodology I'd like to illustrate. For demo purposes, I have a go cart, the chassis is all tubular steel, I was thinking of designing a wing mirror with someone using the context data. It doesn't need to be a great wing mirror it's the PLM tools that are the important things. I tried to share the data with you but can't see your user name in a search. My first hurdle is finding someone to collaborate with. My context data is chassis-1.jt.

    The difference with Onshape, that sets it apart from other PLM systems, is the collaboration is real time.

    For example, in Catia-3DX to modify a part that some one was working on you would need to save it back to the dbase and close it from the session or 'remove' a 'checked out' flag from the part. With Onshape you could open a part I had open and modify while I had it open and your changes would appear in my session. To prevent that I guess I would not to create a new revision or ………?

    Ah, I see. For many of the pros here, that is probably daily routine. Some might even have pet projects they run in parallel. I could well imagine collaborating on a hobbyist project would be fun, and it could widen the possibilities quite some, but wouldn't the project or at least a common goal need to exist first?

    I have a folder, in which I keep my side projects. It holds things like … let's see … a folding table for the camper van, some bike accessory for a friend, a bass guitar I am planning to build, some electronic enclosures and instrument shrouds for the flying club, a strangely shaped custom tube to connect our tumble dryer with the wall outlet and the like things.

    So what kind of project do you have in mind?
