What can we actually build with the Onshape FeatureScript MCP Server?

We’ve been testing the new Onshape FeatureScript MCP Server and honestly, it’s been interesting to see how far it can go. 😎

Instead of asking AI to generate a complete CAD model from a text prompt, we used it to create custom Onshape Features for things we would normally have to build manually.

For example, we created:

  • An Advanced Shell feature with different thicknesses on different faces
  • A Weld Bead feature with different weld types and profiles
  • A Cabinet Creator with configurable panels, doors, shelves, handles, hinges, mounting holes, and a custom cut list

The part I found most interesting was the development process itself. We could describe what we wanted, let the LLM research the FeatureScript approach, generate the code, test it in Onshape, fix errors, and then keep improving the Feature.
