Surfaces do not stay with parts when copied

I have a drawing that is made up of about 8 parts and 5000 surfaces. I have booleaned the parts but can't seem to do that with the surfaces.
Since this is a part for an assembly, I find that the only portion of the part drawing that shows in the assembly are the parts and not the surfaces.
Clear as mud?
Any help would be appreciated.

Today surfaces cannot be used in an assembly.
We fully intend to support both capabilities moving forward.

That is sort of what I found out as I tried to work around it.
