Modelling Universal beam

Hi there,
I'm currently making a lattice base out of steel universal beam for a Wiki house I'm building, and wondered if anyone could suggest a good way, to remove a short section of the top and bottom flange from each end.. The end with flange removed, is to be sloted into the channel of a perpendicularly placed length of universal beam.. So far I've only managed to model the beam..
Grateful for any help
