Ridges around a cylinder?

Hello all,

Please excuse my poorly worded question. I'm very new to modeling and don't know the vocabulary well.

I am trying to make a model of this old radio (image from mepd.net):

I'm at the point of trying to do the dials, and I don't even know what to google for to do the ridges around the outside. The top right knob is particularly confusing to me since it looks like there would be a chamfer that has ridges? Similarly I'm not sure what the smartest way to draw the circular recesses would be.

any advice? thanks!!
