Parts from other documents cannot be edtied?

Even though real-time editing on Onshape is decent, it seems that a part imported from another document cannot be edited or updated. Am I understanding it right?

When you insert a part from another document you are asked to select a version of that document. As versions are immutable you will not get the standard automatic updates that you get when you have an intra-workspace insert. However, if you save a new version in that source document you can click the external link icon and change the insertion to point to that new version, thereby updating the part that you have inserted.
Editing parts from an external document can be done using the `Derive` feature in part studios. You can find the documentation for that operation here.
