    Hi Ben,

By default none of the existing geometry in a part studio (besides the origin) is available for use in a new sketch. If you would like to use existing geometry you can use the Use sketch tool (https://cad.onshape.com/help/Content/sketch-tools-use.htm) or the Intersection sketch tool (https://cad.onshape.com/help/Content/sketch-tools-intersection.htm).  The Use tool will project a face, edge or vertex into the sketch plane and the Intersection tool will intersect a face with the current sketch plane.

If you're not sure which of these you need, I find that the Use tool usually does exactly what I want!

    Hope this helps!

Edit: If you choose a face of a planar part as your Sketch Plane, you should be able to snap to the edges and vertices of that face without first 'Use'ing them.
