Can USE do this?

All I want to do is USE the edges of the hole in Sketch 2, but it will not do it here.

I can use the edges of the Part and the filet tangent line, but not the curves or the edges of the hole as it goes through the block. I realise I can construct the edge lines other ways, but it would be useful if the USE command could do this directly.
Should this work?
Cheers,
John

paul_chastell Onshape Employees Posts: 126I'm not 100% sure which edges you are referring to but I'm thinking you're referring to the silhouettes. I am able to project the various edges of the holes and the silhouettes. See:
To create the silhouette edges first enter the Use command and then mouse over the face so that the silhouettes highlight and then select them. Like this (my mouse was over the dashed line):

paul_chastell Onshape Employees Posts: 126I'm glad that helped @john_mccurdy. To get those screenshots I displayed the part in "hidden edges visible" mode and the orange is the default mouse-over highlighting. Then I grabbed the screen. The reason it didn't work the first way you tried is that the current workflow is to highlight the face so that the sketch knows what silhouettes to display: we don't currently have a general way of selecting visual silhouettes.

paul_chastell Onshape Employees Posts: 126You would be able to pick an edge or face through a face by using "Select Other" on the right mouse context menu to get deeper entities but silhouettes aren't selectable at all. Also, selecting a face is already handled by 'use' (which uses all the edges of the face when it is selected) so there's no way to 'select other' the face and then get its silhouettes. Hence the current behavior that we need to mouse over the face so that the selectable silhouettes show. For the most part though you can use Select Other to 'pick deeper'.Paul Chastell

paul_chastell Onshape Employees Posts: 126A screenshot would help me see what you're trying to select. To clarify what I said in my last comment: select other will only work for edges and faces, not for silhouettes. So it is not going to help with silhouettes in this case and you need to rotate the view to be able to get to the face and from there to the silhouettes.Paul Chastell

Create a plane where you want your sketch to be and start a sketch. Select the intersect command and pick the surfaces you want to project onto the plane. It will project the curve at the point the plane is slicing.
To the other responses here, yes I could make a plane and to an intersection, but that seems more involved when a simple USE should do the job.
BTW, how are you capturing those screen shots with the highlighted orange bits?
Cheers all,

I thought maybe there was a key modifier to allow the mouse to select 'deeper' entities. It seems strange that when viewing normal to my sketch plane, and seeing visible although 'hidden' details, that I cannot select those details for USE. Maybe this is deliberate to avoid confusion?

Viewing the part normal to Sketch2, I really cant understand why I am able to USE the fillet tangent line at a simple touch, but not the other lines which define the edges of the hole and the fillet profile.
Sorry to go on about this, but its so inconsistent, and your suggestion of Select Other is simply doing nothing here - whatever I click on it just says "No Selections Found".
