Onshape does not support editing mesh files. Generally you would want to use a Mesh editor rather than a CAD program. Can you get the file in a CAD format (parasolid, STEP, IGES etc)?

You could try Freecad, which so far as I've played with it, appears to be able to import STLs, manipulate meshes, and convert to a solid, and export as STEP..... which Onshape can then use...0

I tried "STL to STEP" with FreeCAD (www.freecadweb.org). It works very well (with a small part).
