How do I create a freeform 3D curve in Onshape?

Assume that I have a curve travelling through 3D space. That curve may define a pipe, maybe a connecting element, or something else altogether.
How do I draw this easily with Onshape? It seems to me that whatever I do needs to be a project of some sort of a 2D curve.

These tools may help you create curves in 3d space:
Specifically 3D fit spline creates a curve through a series of points, and bridging curve creates a curve between two entities (with tangency control options). Projected curve could also be useful if your curve can be created by creating two curves on 2D planes and projecting them onto each other in 3D space.
