Shelling Parts

I'm shelling a rather complicated part for SLS printing and I would like to keep a part of it solid. Is there a way to selectively shell a part?

Ok, there is more to it than that.
My technique is to split the part (as many times as needed using planes or sketches), to isolate the region to shell. Next shell. Finally boolean the pieces back together.
I hope this helps
