Is there a simple way to highlight or label a plane, or edge, or face?

I am fairly new to FeatureScript and am having trouble descovering which line or face or edge or plane I have selected from a query.
I have written a few functions which write text on a face or plane which help immensely with selecting the right face to extrude or edge to rotate around.
I thought there might be something built in for this, since every step of a process seems to involve selecting the right feature from a previous step.
