Arrranging parts on a flad bed (3d printing/CNC)

Hi all, I was wondering if there are any simple commands I'm missing for arranging parts from various part studios on a flat surface for 3D printing or milling. I would love to have some basic alignment tools for snapping to surfaces or equally spacing parts but all of the tools in the assembly seem more catered to complex assembly references and such. Anyone have any recommendations?
Basically I want to be able to select faces and assign them to sit flat on a print bed and then move them around freely or assign distances between parts.
