Unable to use face of extrusion as a sketch plane

I'm trying to design a case to hold a PCB, and I'm now trying to add some snap clips (well the negative part) to the sides of the case. I've done one side, and no matter what I try, I can't select the other face of the inside of the case and use it as a plane for a sketch. All I can do is select, I would have expected to be able to add lines etc, but I can't. The other thing I notice that as soon as I select the face, the sketch in the Features list becomes italics?
I've tried toggling the planes on and off (using 'p')
Any ideas!

Glad it's working again, weirdness is afoot.
I took a copy of your link and it also worked fine. You're probably way ahead of me but I dunno if you want symmetrical clips or anti-numpty asymmetric ones. If symmetrical than I'd be tempted to use the mirror feature rather than new sketch...

I'm trying to create a sketch on the inside wall of the opposite face to the one that has the 2 indents already
