how do i add fasten mates to a part every 16 inches on center for framing a wall

Hi Donald. Your best bet is probably to add a Mate Connector in the part studio, and then 'Linear Pattern' that connector using 'Feature Pattern' option (still in the part studio). Then when you add your beam to the assembly, it will have all the required connectors.

If using the same part in each location then the assembly pattern feature is pretty neat, no need for additional mate connectors.
