Screw threads: Pitch vs Form

In the official tutorial on helical screw threads, an equilateral triangle is used for the thread form. It says something to the effect of, "Make the length of the triangle slightly less than the pitch of the thread."
How much less, exactly?
Threaded camera lenses and accessories, over the years, have generally come with one of three pitches: 0.5mm, 0.75mm, or 1.0mm. What size triangles should be used with these three?
