How to create an elliptical channel on a cylinder?

I got the app sketch wrap which applies the sketch on a cylinder, but I am unable to extrude a channel using that applied sketch. Is there another app that will do that?

    Not sure exactly what you're after, can you sketch something?  I'm assuming the profile isn't uniform else you's just use a revolve?

    when you wrap a sketch you get a 3d curve, but extrude feature works only with planar regions, so you need to use sweep feature instead
