How to extrude cut

I would like to extrude cut the rectangle around the sketch shown but it does not let me. It ends up deleting the whole sketch

@rahul_doshi It looks like you did not appropriately constrain the sketch. The inner profile you were trying to keep was not fully coincident with the outer rectangle you have for your cutting profile.
You can always double check your work by first making sure the sketch is constrained (the lines will turn from blue to black) and if you are still having trouble change the extrude cut to extrude new to see what geometry is created and if that matches what you were expecting to be removed.
