Creating a surface to extrude

I wanted to extend the hind legs of the deer; firstly I tried drawing a surface ( outlined in image in construction lines- added so you can see where ) to extrude using the spline tool but the surface was not created. Secondly I tried extruding the under face of the hind legs but this did not pick up in extrude.
Please help.
Frustrated.

(It'll then turn solid grey as in the image below.)To get the enclosed region we need to do three things.(i) Convert your reference geometry to standard geometry.(ii) Give it a top edge. (The "use" feature created this for us)(iii) Make everything join up. Your points were placed near the existing deer, but not precisely on it. So I added "coincident constraints" in the sketch. We can then do an "extrude-add" of that new region to add it into the original part.Hope some of that helps.I highly recommend one of Cody Arstrong's "sketch fundamentals" webinars or working through the learning center examples to give an overview of good workflows hereHappy CADing, and shout if you need help.Cheers,Owen S.Business Systems and Configuration Controller
