Use Variables with Linear & Circular Pattern?

I need to use a variable to tell the sketch how many pieces to pattern.
Looks like the part pattern will allow this but not the sketch patterns.

Please search the public doc called Pretty Patterns to see how to do it.

@cache_river_millworks You're correct that variables can be used within a part pattern, a face pattern, or a feature pattern, but not within a sketch pattern.

See my response to this question another thread for a technical explanation why. This is a current limitation of of Onshape, so right we recommend you arrange things so you can use a part, face, or feature pattern instead.
