can anyone please advise how the ends of the spring may be closed to give a flat seat, thanks.

    Normally, they are either ground flat (extruded cut), or have a non-helical circular loop at the end (revolve). I'm sure someone here will show you what both of those look like.

    You created a cylinder to make the spring you show. Make a new sketch on the top flat face of the cylinder and USE the cylinder top as the only element in your sketch. Make a new sweep using the end of your already created spring as the face to sweep and the new sketch as the path. That will create a ring that intersects your spring. Boolean the two together. Repeat for the bottom. - Scotty

    Another option is to revolve the same face some number of degrees less than 360 so you don't get the overlap.
