Best surface measuring strategy?

What is a good method for measuring points on a surface within featurescript?
Is there a "create mesh" that I can apply to the surface first then measure those points?
There must be more efficient way than what I am imagining:
- Split the surface into a grid
- Measure the split points from a plane

@MichaelPascoe take a look at the Attractor Pattern or Surface Pattern feature to see how to make a point grid on the surface, then iterate through them in a for loop to measure each one to your reference plane. Does that sound like it would do what you want?1

@MichaelPascoeI think @Evan_Reese has a way of making UV lines on a non planar surface ?
If he could put those on the surface of what you’re showing, I wonder if he would be able to select one of those UV lines with the measure tool, in order to get a distance1 -
