How do I angle a round piece of rod

Trying to put a 45 degree on the end of 12mm diameter round rod. I cant seem to figure how to create he angle. I tried to Fillet and Draft but just ended up with a point.
attached is the part i am trying to draw

    Ha! Just realised you might have meant the other 45 degree cut? Create a shape like this on the side plane and extrude/remove in both directions.

    Great!!! thanks so much for your help the only thing I couldn't do was get the thread flat but not too bad for a first attempt
