How do I change the color of multiple parts in an assembly?

Im working on building a pen in the software. It is one of those types of pens where you can select up to four different colors. I created only one actual pen piece, I then imported it 4 times into my assembly. I want to change their individual colors to represent different ink colors. Is there a way to do this, or do I need to create 4 different pen pieces. Thanks for the help.
