Modifying an STL in OneShape

Hello,
I am new to CAD software and I am following a YouTube tutorial for 3d printing.
>I have imported the STL in a part studio
>Created a 3 points plane matching one of my model's faces
>Created a fully constrained rectangle on set plane
>Trying to Extrude -> Add -> Blind the rectangle through the STL model (I am trying to remove writing from one of the STL's faces)
>Getting "boolean operation failed to return a valid part"
What am I missing here? I know that OneShape has only limited support for STL but I am sure what I am trying to do should work.
