Is it possible to write a code to download the STEP of an MMC part number and overwrite the Name, Part Number, Vendor, and Description to the imported STEP file to show on BOM?
This feature can save time in production, assembly, and creating BOM. This is one of the disadvantages of Onshape vs. Fusion 360.

This may be possible via API, but it's not doable with pure FeatureScript. Think of FS as a way to automate insertion of features that are already supported within a single PartStudio - creating sketches, curves, solids, etc from scratch. Reaching out to an external server to download data is not within that scope.2

As a side note, I believe the most likely place for this to come from would be from McMaster themselves.
They are actually quite responsive and I have emailed them from the "how can we improve?" link and suggested an Onshape plugin and got an answer that they would forward that to their dev team so I encourage you to do the same!
The more people ask them the more likely it is to happen!5

Thank you, Mahir! That was a clear and very helpful answer. I look forward to seeing a Plugin from Onshape then.0

@eric_pesty That's a fantastic idea! I love their platform and I've talked to their team before, very friendly and responsive. I'll definitely reach out, thank you!0

@eric_pesty done, I emailed them too and they passed the request along to their web design team. Perhaps if enough of us do this, they will create this app.
