Hole did not regenerate properly.

I have what should be a very simple drawing. It is a 7.625 X 7.625 plate with two .56" diameter holes, .55" deep. One hole on each of the top left and right corners, 1.25" from top and
1.25" from the left and right side. After placing the holes on the drawing and clicking the the GREEN check mark I get a message, "Hole did not regenerate properly. No target part selected for holes." Since I (think) I only have 1 part, the plate, that I placed the points on then set the holes on those points. I also tried, "select mate connectors" from the hole drop down and get the same message.
What am I missing/doing wrong?
Today is my first day using OnShape or any CAD program. Trying to learn enough to do some DIY projects using a Plasma CNC table.

You need to have a solid in order to make a hole. Right now you only have a sketch. Extrude the sketch into a solid, then the holes will work.
When you are all done with your part, you can right click on the face and select export as dxf/dwg for your plasma cutter.0

In Onshape, holes 'live'on points. So you want to select the part as the owner of the holes (which you apparaently did), but then you also need to specify e.g. sketch points previously created or mate connectors on the surface of that part to define the location of the holes.These are the types of points a hole can be placed upon:It is always a good idea to provide a link to a sample file with the question.

Thanks for your reply. I am not understanding something. in my original drawing I tried to mate and was not successful.

I am still not sure what I am doing/not doing right/wrong. I am working through the self paced education, but so far it has not helped me resolve this issue.
Any additional info would be appreciated.
