Improvements to Onshape - February 3rd, 2023
A very happy start to February for the Onshape community. This time we have lots to share in the world of surface modeling, improvements to long standing features of Onshape as well as powerful production drawing and inspection reporting capabilities. PART STUDIOS BOUNDARY SURFACE The Boundary Surface feature puts high… -
Re: Using loft tool to extrude off parallel to axis
@greg_lucas, after playing with the loft tool a bit more I confirmed that TWIST is indeed the problem that you encountered on Loft 4. Generally it is best practice for both loft profiles to have the same number of vertices. There is an option to "Match Connections" to manually tell Onshape how to clock the profiles with… -
Re: 3D point
Now I'm just nitpicking, but can you edit the multi coordinate workflow to be more like the multi along curve? For multi curve you have a variable array input query, but for multi coordinate the user is forced to enter a specially formatted string array. It would be nice if you could just enter X/Y/Z (or R/Th/Z, R/Th/Ph)… -
Re: NEED HELP ON FS
@Nan_Cp The only thing you need to change from the code you pasted above is that: const profileEntities = qCreatedBy(definition.features); should be: const profileEntities = qCreatedBy(definition.profile); Because the input variable in your feature is defined as 'definition.profile', not 'definition.features'. The… -
Re: We use metric in all European countries. Why is it so difficult to work in metric?
Hi @osborn_jones. I'm in the UK, use metric units and love how easy onshape is to use with regard to dimensioning, so hopefully there is something simple going wrong in your workflow. My first guess is that your 2.345 is the exact dimension of where you have clicked your mouse. The precision is the accuracy to which… -
Re: Need Advice: How best to create a new part from existing part instance?
I believe I described that approach as my initial inclination. However, that approach still requires delete, reinsert, re constrain the instance. I was hoping for a way (unknown to me) that would eliminate those tedious steps. It appears that Onshape currently does not have the capability to quickly support this common… -
Fix-it mode for broken features
In my category selection box on this forum, "Improvement requests" is greyed out. Did I make too many requests? I generally have a grouping of variables at the top of my feature list, and I use these to make tweaks which are usually done for getting optimal 3D prints. Often changing one value will break several sketches… -
Frame Tooling 2.0
So I started to create a product with the frame tool with the intention of creating a series of similar products. However once I started getting into PLM (OpenBOM) in this case. I realized that designing in this way would not be scalable. Since only the composite part is inserted into the assembly OpenBOM would only import… -
Centred Text in FeatureScript
I'm trying to create a simple featurescript thing that will take a numeric value (from a variable, but that's incidental), convert it to a string with a prefix and write it as text centred on the origin of a face of a body. Most of that is quite straightforward, but I've been completely beaten by the (seemingly simple)… -
Loft sketches using FeatureScript
Hello, I am trying to build a FeatureScript that will take external data, generate offset sketches and loft them. Each sketch is essentially a profile. However, I am having difficulties creating an array of sketches or profiles to then pass to the opLoft function #N00B. Could anyone take a look at my code? FeatureScript…
