Re: Anyone have an FS that can convert a decimal length to a (reduced) fractional equivalent
I was killing time last night and decided to compare timing performance and accuracy against the implementation above and the lookup table approach. Here's what I found: Speed: @eric_pesty computation is generally faster at low conversion counts. The lookup table approach is faster as we increase the number of conversions… -
Re: How do you document Product Labels
I would document the liner with a CAD model (likely an assembly) if you want a specific die cut which is dimensionally controlled and different from the label (e.g. something with a pull tab or fixture alignment holes). Sometimes on projects there will be a cross-section diagram with the layer stack up. This can either be… -
Improvements to Onshape - January 30th, 2026
Welcome to the new release! We're excited to share with you several different improvements spanning drawings, part and assembly analysis, and rendering - as well as a highly-anticipated sheet metal capability. Let's jump right in. CAD IMPROVEMENTS SHEET METAL LOFT You can now create complex sheet metal parts by connecting… -
Re: Default primary planes Top/ Front/ Right measure 150mm - Can FScript be used to edit that number?
You can only manually adjust the default planes. You can, however, create planes at whatever size you want via FeatureScript. In FeatureScript you can also delete the primary plane bodies (almost certainly a terrible idea). The "Top, Right, Front" entries stay in the feature tree but clicking on them doesn't do anything.… -
Improvements to Onshape - November 6th, 2023

It's already November! We may be nearing the end of the year, but there's no end in sight for meaningful Onshape updates! Let's jump right in. GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS SPECIFY FOLDER ON CREATE You can now directly create a document or folder anywhere within your Onshape folder structure, without having to navigate into the… -
Re: How to make wing with curved bottom? - airfoil tool and/or loft

You can certainly control a loft in the way you'd like, though the curvature of the path near the centerline seems pretty extreme? One thing before you get too far into this, the profiles you are generating are going to need significant work if you look at the curvature you'll see why: You'll likely have issues thickening,… -
Involute using parametric curce

Hi, I am trying to generate an involute profile for gear tooth and facing some troubles using the parametric curve feature script. This is the equation I am trying to implement. I checked the examples from the feature script. Using multiplication in the cosine function works but when I try to add, it does not work. Please… -
Re: Matte Connectors

The Onshape mating philosophy (once understood) is far more efficient than the traditional low level approach used by older CAD systems. There is a very simple hierarchy. * Mate Connection Points are points automatically generated and offered on faces and edges. * A Mate Connector is a coordinate system generated… -
Re: Best method for creating bevel gears?
Misumi supply 3D models of bevel gears -- not a huge range (small sizes range, in particular, but you can easily scale them up) http://us.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/110300429650/?Inch=0&CategorySpec=00000029849::a They do supply any item from their range on very short timeframes and generally remarkably affordably, all… -
Re: Any efficient ways to make a cutlist from a cabinet drawing?
Can confirm that 6 years later, we are still using Onshape and creating 100% of our kitchens with Onshape. We're continuing to generate more and more information solely from the model, and are implementing more integrations with tools like Onshape's API. We've also had conversations with other cabinet manufacturers and…
