How do you document Product Labels

Otto_DeRuntzOtto_DeRuntz Member Posts: 24 PRO

Does anyone have a good example of how you document product labels? Most labels have a number of layers, i.e. a Liner, adhesive, printable layer, adhesive, clear top protective layer.
I'm look for a template that contains only the necessary information. There are adhesion properties and environmental conditions and wear characteristics.

Do you make a layered assembly for your labels or just create a table of some sort?

I would document the liner with a CAD model (likely an assembly) if you want a specific die cut which is dimensionally controlled and different from the label (e.g. something with a pull tab or fixture alignment holes). Sometimes on projects there will be a cross-section diagram with the layer stack up. This can either be a non-parametric illustration or it could be modeled. Most of the time, notes are good enough to cover the layer info. Adhesive properties are usually covered by spec'ing a 3M adhesive (or approved equivalent).

Environmental and wear sounds more like a general test or spec document which you might reference on the 2D drawing.
