Re: New Custom Feature: Publish Geometry
@romeograham sorry, just saved v3 which now doesn't delete any of the selected mate connectors.
Re: The Perfect Mouse for CAD
I'm currently using the Razer Naga V2 Hyperspeed mouse. It's an MMO mouse with a 12-key thumb pad that I've programmed to have my enter key, backspace, delete and all of the orthographic views (i.e. front, left, right, etc.). There is also a "switch" button that turns my thumb pad into a number pad so I can enter dimensions and such without using the keyboard.
Re: Fully-defined sketches: what are they, and why care?
Short sighted management. ROI on a dual monitor setup happens immediately and repeatedly each time an error is not made due to better oversight. But there is no honour to be gained in prevention. Heroes are born when an error made has to be corrected.
BTW.: These days, one large monitor is cheaper than two mid-sized ones.
Re: New Custom Feature: Publish Geometry
thanks @joshtargo !!
@romeograham - if you remove this bit it should stop consuming the MC's
opDeleteBodies(context, id + "deleteBodies1", { "entities" : definition.mc
regarding the naming of MC's - I was hoping for the same thing but couldn't get it to work. It seems that Onshape doesn't let you get a feature name in featurescript - I think because renaming a feature doesn't trigger a rebuild so there is no way to catch if it has changed.
Re: Compliance Help: Saving work for 7 years
In industry, STEP files are used for similar compliance requirements. Onshape is a modeling service, so I don't know what "original submission" means. The work is generated in Onshape. I can't see that your state compliance requirements say anything about feature trees. Where is this requirement coming from?
As you know, Onshape does not use files. It uses databases to store your design work. I agree with @Ste_Wilson, an Education Enterprise plan is a better way to satisfy your compliance requirements.
Re: Gear Lab - Cylindrical, Bevel, Face Gears
can you make the icon public again so we can see it in the FS dropdown?
Re: How Do I Insert Parts Into An Assembly
-No offense, but if you are a pro, and switching cad programs, you are costing your company money if you don't do training. (or costing yourself tons of aggravation if using OS at home for a hobby). The assembly process in OS is the biggest difference from other cad programs, imo.
-The hardware you imported is standard content. No need to waste time importing it.
-The direct answer to your question is the "insert" command is how to bring any part into an assembly. If it's not showing up in the list, did you make a version of the document you are inserting it from? One way to quickly find it is to click on "other documents", then the "home icon" on the left, then "recently opened". That will find your hardware import document, and from there you can get to the part studio of the import. Note also, it may be a composite part, which won't show in the list unless you click the composite part filter icon.
help finishing a CAD/Onshape Best Practices document for a FIRST FRC team
Our FIRST FRC team is transitioning from Inventor to Onshape. I wrote a "best practices" document to help the students get the most out of the software.
Yes, I've had them do the tutorials, yes, I've had them watch some of Team Spectrum's videos..
Does anyone have suggestions of things I forgot to put on there?
